Thumbs down Re: SKYCOM-Hanover Square,Kensington Manor,Knightsbridge Court,Platinum One,The Light - 28-08-2008, 11:50 PM

I bought a studio platinum One from their exhibition back in June 2008 only to find out that many of the things they told me were not true

Lie #1: They gave you a short list of properties saying that these are the only units remaining for sale, to make me feel rushed before they are sold out. I noticed then that all of them were on the same floor, which looked weird, but unfortunately didn’t think enough about it. Few days after the exhibition, I called to ask if they have any free units for a "friend of mine who is interested". Guess what, they had "few units" available in both developments (previously claimed to be sold out). Not only this, I figured out later that they actually had 2-3 more exhibitions to try and sell these remaining units.

Lie #2: During the sale, I asked them if I can apply for a mortgage on the unit I am buying from Dubai banks. They said that they "don’t support the process, but I can get mortgage on the unit from Dubai banks after the second payment". Guess what I found out later. They are not an approved developed by any bank in the UAE; i.e. I can never get a mortgage on their developments in a million years

Lie #3: They tell people that they are helping them with that exchange rate company they introduce you to and that this company will give you the best rate ever. You know what rate they offered me at the time of my first payment? 7.0 dirhams for 1 pound (when the official exchange rate was 7.25 dirhams for a pound)

Lie #4: After I found out about the above 3 lies, I tried to call them to complain. I had the worst treatment ever. I asked them to delay my first payment until the end of the month as I had a ticket booked to Dubai (at my own expense) to check the location of the development, the escrow account, ... etc. The only reply I got from their sales people and accounting was "you have to pay the first payment now" repeatedly. They kept asking me to pay the first payment otherwise they will forfeit my reservation payment, with no regards to the lies they told me during the sale process. I finally managed to get to their sales manager thinking to myself that I might have finally gotten to someone who would make things right. After promising to take care of it by "end of the week" 3 times for 3 consecutive weeks, I figured out that his promises are no different from the ones I got during the sale process. I didn’t hear back from him until now even though I keep calling him.

At the end, I am glad I didn’t go through with the purchase. Getting stuck for 20 years contract with such company would have been a nightmare, especially as the recent analyst reports expect the Dubai property market to start going down by the end of 2009/2010.
Also recently I heard that they didn’t start building the development yet even though they were supposed to start in May (not sure how true is this)

If you can still get out of it, try to minimize your losses
